Privacy policy
Chop Awoof is operated by Ingena Labs Ltd ("Ingena Labs", "we", "us"), a company incorporated in Nigeria, and we are the controller of the personal data described below. This policy explains what we collect across this website, the Chop Awoof customer website at app.chopawoof.com, and the Chop Awoof customer and merchant apps, why, and your rights, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
What we collect
This website (chopawoof.com) itself does not run any forms. If you email us — for example, a merchant applying via admin@chopawoof.com — we receive whatever you include, such as your name, business details and contact information.
Through the customer website and the customer app, we collect: your phone number (used to sign in, verified by a one-time code), optionally your email and name, saved pickup addresses (including precise location coordinates, not just an approximate area), your orders and payment references, your Awoof Balance activity, device information needed for push notifications (customer app only), and your notification preferences. We never receive or store your card number — card details are handled directly by Paystack, our payment processor.
Through the merchant app, we collect: business and owner contact details, your pickup location, storefront photos, any verification documents you choose to upload, and bank account details for payouts — for your bank account, we store only the last four digits and a one-way reference used to prevent duplicate transfers, never the full account number.
Why we collect it
We use this information to operate the marketplace: to verify your identity, process orders and payments, coordinate pickup, pay merchants, respond to support requests and merchant applications, meet our own record-keeping and legal obligations, and — where you have agreed — to send you marketing or promotional messages. Order-related notifications (such as "your order is ready") are sent regardless of your marketing preferences, because they are necessary to the service itself; promotional messages can be turned off in your notification settings at any time.
Location data
Saved pickup addresses and merchant pickup locations are stored as precise coordinates, because pickup requires an exact location. When you browse offers without a saved address, any location you share is used to rank nearby offers and is not saved to your account. Your browser remembers it in a cookie for up to 180 days so you do not have to choose it again, and you can change it at any time.
Sharing with service providers
We do not sell your personal data. We share it with service providers who help us run the platform, and only as needed for that purpose: Paystack (payments and merchant payouts), Termii (SMS and WhatsApp messages, including one-time verification codes), Resend (email delivery), Google (maps and location lookup), Firebase (push notifications), Cloudinary (file and image storage), and our error-monitoring provider, which is configured to avoid capturing personal data where possible. We may also disclose information where required by law, by a competent Nigerian authority, or to investigate fraud or a safety concern.
Advertising with Meta
If, and only if, you accept cookies, the customer website and this website use Meta Pixel, a tool from Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram). It tells Meta about your visit: the pages you open, the offers you view, what you add to your cart and the value of what you buy, along with your browser details and IP address, and it can link that visit to your Facebook or Instagram account if you have one. We use this to see which ads lead to orders and to show relevant ads to you and to people like you. Meta also uses this information to deliver and improve its advertising, under its own terms and privacy policy, so it is not only our service provider. We do not send your name, phone number or email to Meta, and the Chop Awoof apps do not use Meta Pixel.
You can decline, or change your mind later, without it affecting your account or your orders. See our Cookie policy for details and how to change your choice.
Transfers outside Nigeria
Some of the providers above, including Meta, process data outside Nigeria, for example in the United States and the European Union. Where we rely on your consent for such a transfer, as we do for Meta Pixel, you can withdraw it at any time, and this will stop further transfers of that kind.
Cookies
We use the cookies the sites need to work. Meta Pixel cookies are optional and run only if you accept them. Our Cookie policy lists every cookie, what it does and how long it lasts, and explains how to change your choice.
How long we keep it
We keep order, payment and Awoof Balance records for as long as needed for accounting, tax and dispute purposes, consistent with Nigerian record-keeping requirements. If you delete your customer account, we anonymise your profile (your name, email and phone number are cleared or replaced) and sign you out everywhere, but your order history is kept in anonymised form for our own legal and accounting obligations — we do not delete it outright, because doing so would also erase the audit trail a dispute or regulator might later need. We keep emails sent to us for as long as reasonably needed to respond, or until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights under the NDPA
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have rights to access, correct, or request erasure of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, or to ask a question about this policy, contact us at admin@chopawoof.com. You can also withdraw any consent you have given, which does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it, and you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. We will respond as required by law. A dedicated privacy contact may be published here before launch.
Account deletion
You can delete your customer account at any time from your account settings on the website or in the app. The website sends you a code first to confirm it's you. This is immediate and cannot be undone or scheduled for later. If you hold both a customer and a merchant account on the same phone number, deleting your customer account does not affect your merchant account.
If you no longer have the Chop Awoof app, or cannot sign in on the website or in the app, email admin@chopawoof.com with the subject "Delete my Chop Awoof account" and the phone number on your account. We will confirm the request with you and then delete your customer account for you. Deletion works the same way as doing it yourself: your name, email and phone number are cleared, and your order history is kept only in anonymised form, as described above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service develops. A material change will show you an updated version to review and acknowledge again before it applies to you. We will update the date on this page whenever we do.
